The number of new cases of Covid-19 has increased by more than 30% in a week in France, faster than the increase in the number of tests performed.
Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday evening the holding of a new Council of Defence on the Covid-19 “next week”, while the number of people diagnosed positive has increased by more than 30% in a week.
“I recommend the greatest vigilance”, “to be hidden systematically in an enclosed place” and “when we can’t keep the safety distances, putting on a mask,” added the head of State, who said he is “vigilant and engaged with our scientists, with members of the government and our carers”.

“I think we should get into the habit of wearing this mask”, he added, recalling that the previous Council of Defence had authorized “the elected officials who wanted to impose the wearing of the mask under certain conditions, including outdoors”.

On the week of 27 July to 2 August, 7565 people have been tested positive in france, or +33% compared to the previous week which had seen a jump in the number of cases (+57%, with 5695).
