After the Cannes Film Festival and the Golden Globes, the French film “Anatomy of a Fall” continues its harvest of awards. He is nominated five times for the Oscars.

Anatomy of a Fall continues to shine on the international stage. After winning the Palme d’Or at the last Cannes Film Festival and two Golden Globes, the French film directed by Justine Triet is now in competition for the Oscars. This Tuesday, January 23, we learned that it had been nominated in five categories: Best film, best direction, best actress (for Sandra Hüller), best original screenplay and best editing.

Anatomy of a Fall, however, is not cited in the Best Foreign Film category. The commission responsible for nominating France’s candidate for the awards ceremony preferred to send Dodin Bouffant’s La passion into competition. The latter was not selected among the five finalists by the Academy. Now nominated five times at the Oscars, can we hope that Anatomy of a Fall will leave with a statuette? The competition will be tough, since it faces, in the Best Film and Best Direction categories, heavyweights: Oppenheimer by Christopher Nolan, already nominated 13 times, Killers of the Flower Moon by Martin Scorsese or even Barbie or Poor Creatures .

This is not to say that Anatomy’s chances of a fall are completely zero. It is far from impossible that Justine Triet’s film leaves the Oscars with the prize for Best Original Screenplay. The film has already been awarded, in this category, a Golden Globe, a light prize or a 2023 European cinema prize and a Gotham Independent Film Award. So it bodes well for the Oscars. In this category, the screenplay by Arthur Harari and Justine Triet competes against Winter Break, Maestro, May December and Past Lives.

Conversely, it is difficult to comment on the Best Editing or Best Actress categories. In this category, Sandra Hüller has her place perfectly, but the competition is also important. Emma Stone (Poor Creatures) and Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon) are also favorites.

The fate of Anatomy of a Fall will be determined soon. The 96th awards ceremony will take place on the night of March 10-11, 2024, live from Los Angeles.
