The couple’s relationship hit a rough patch back in 2018 and reached the stage of no return two decades later, a source only told Us Weekly.
“The turning point in Kim and Kanye’s union was when he stated that slavery was an option ,” the insider said of the rapper’s controversial 2018 interview with TMZ. “They went through a very rough patch in the wake of that. Kim was utterly mortified by Kanye’s absurd and outrageous comments. It took a lot for them to move past it, however, they were able to eventually. But when Kanye told the world he and Kim had spoke aborting North [in July 2020], it was the breaking point in their marriage”
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, 40, could not look past the remarks her husband, 43, made after he kicked off his bid to get the U.S. presidency using a rally in South Carolina, where he broke down and cried as he spoke abortion. He followed up it later using a tweet storm in which he maintained that Kardashian was trying to lock him up under a 5150 psychiatric grip and that he had been trying to divorce her for a couple of years, alleging that she had been unfaithful with Meek Mill.
“There was no turning back for Kim then. She managed to brush off things he said for shock value previously, but she was in over her head the moment he brought their children into it. She thought it had been completely improper and freaked out over the thought of North one afternoon reading about it,” the source told Us. “From there, they were unable to get back to the location they had been in.”
Like many couples, Kardashian and the Grammy winner did not always watch eye-to-eye. West’s continued controversies just became too much for the reality star over time.
“Kim and Kanye, of course, had disagreements behind closed doors just like any other couple, but she asked him several times to be careful with what he stated in public, particularly when it involved the kids,” the insider explained.
Back in July, Kardashian posted a statement about her husband’s battle with mental illness and the toll it takes on nearest and dearest. At the same time, Us reported that she had been consulting with a high-powered divorce attorney. The couple were seldom seen together in public in the months which followed.
Us verified that the Skims creator registered for divorce on Friday, February 19. They had been married for six decades and share four kids: North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 21 months.
An insider told Us in January she planned to”focus on her business empire” amid the split.
“Kim was in individual counselling and is at peace with where her life is headed,” the source said at the time.
Us only reported they “needed a large struggle” in December 2020. “Kanye blew up at Kim and she was really upset. Things between them do not appear to have cured since that,” the source said.
The pair had”been living separate lives for several months.”
