The airline Air Caraïbes has given up relaunching flights between Paris and Havana or Santiago de Cuba due to the health situation and travel restrictions.
[Updated January 10, 2022 at 10:26 a.m.] Air Caraïbes has been serving the main airports in the Caribbean since 2013: Cuba, Dominican Republic Guadeloupe, Guyana, Martinique, Saint-Martin, Haiti… Due to the health situation and outbreaks of case of Covid-19 around the world, the airline announced to its customers that “the resumption of its flights to Cuba (Havana), scheduled to start on February 5, 2022, is postponed to October 22 2022”. Affected travelers have the choice between full refund of their tickets, creation of a credit note valid for one year or exchange of their tickets to another destination in the Air Caraïbes network on the same dates and without fare readjustment.
Air Caraïbes offers travelers to go to Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyana, Saint-Martin, the Dominican Republic and even Cuba. Currently, the Air Caraïbes network currently covers 13 destinations spread across mainland France (Paris-Orly), the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean. From its base in Pointe-à-Pitre and Fort-de-France, Air Caraïbes flies to several intra-Caribbean destinations.
On its website, the airline recalls online all the conditions to be respected on its transatlantic journeys during the Covid period: wearing a surgical mask compulsory on each journey, temperature control by contactless infrared thermometer depending on the airport of departure and arrival or Mandatory presentation of a negative RT-PCR or antigenic Covid-19 test carried out in the laboratory 3 days before departure.
You can book your Air Caraïbes ticket online, on the company’s website (which regularly offers promotions), but also at the Air Caraïbes agency located in Paris (4, rue de la Croix Nivert, 75015 Paris). Under certain conditions, your reservation can be modified on the Air Caraïbes website: change the date or time of departure, choose your meal, add additional baggage, select a seat… To have a contact to whom to present your requests, contact the reservation center in mainland France (0820 835 835) or in the Antilles/Guyana (0820 835 835).
In order to save time at the airport, Air Caraïbes recommends checking in online, comfortably seated behind your computer screen. This service opens 48 hours before your flight departs and allows you to select your seat from a cabin map. Once you arrive at the airport, if you have no checked baggage, you can go directly to police checks and formalities before going to the boarding lounge for your departure. If you wish to place baggage in the hold, you will not need to queue at the counter: drop it off at the “Caraibes Web” counter before the check-in deadline, which is 1h30 before flight departure for flights transatlantic and 1 hour for regional flights. Otherwise, you will still be able to check in at the airport.
How much baggage can you take on an Air Caraïbes flight? At no additional cost, each passenger is entitled to one piece of cabin baggage, the dimensions of which must not exceed 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm, i.e. 115 cm in total. Its weight must not exceed 5 kg on the regional network, 12 kg on the transatlantic network. You can also travel with an additional accessory such as a handbag, laptop or camera.
For checked baggage, it all depends on your class of travel and the type of flight (long-haul or regional). So check your baggage allowance on your electronic ticket. On the transatlantic network, in Soleil Class (economy class) you can, for example, take a 23 kg piece of checked baggage. Beyond that, a supplement will be applied.
In mainland France, Air Caraïbes flights take off from Paris-Orly airport, at the South terminal. If you live in the provinces, know that the company offers TGV Air, a service offered in partnership with the SNCF. This will allow you to book your plane train trip in one go but above all to make your connections between the station and the airport with peace of mind. Air Caraïbes has adapted its schedules so that connections to or from the 19 TGV stations are optimized.
