He was one of the rising stars of the Los Angeles hip-hop scene: American rapper MoneySign Suede is dead. According to the American press, the artist was stabbed to death on Tuesday April 25, 2023 in the showers of the prison in Soledad, California. Only 22 years old, he was serving a 32-month sentence there for possession of firearms. “People are very shocked. He was a very popular guy, very mild-mannered. People loved him,” said Nicholas Rosenberg, the artist’s lawyer, in a statement carried by the American press, including the Los Angeles Times.

MoneySign Suede was discovered in the prison showers after he was noticed missing from his cell on the evening of Tuesday April 25, around 10 p.m., before he was pronounced dead. In the same statement, prison officials reported “injuries consistent with homicide.” An investigation has been opened to confirm the rapper’s assassination and determine the causes of the tragedy.

Jaime Brugada Valdez, better known by his stage name MoneySign Suede, died in the midst of his career explosion. Launched on social networks, the 22-year-old young man had seen his notoriety grow from 2020 with, among other things, his song Back to the Bag. The following year, MoneySign Suede signed to Atlantic Records and released their final album, Parkside Baby, in September.
