Adam Brody and Kristen Bell are taking on new roles in the upcoming Netflix series Nobody Wants This. Brody plays Noah, an unconventional rabbi, while Bell stars as Joanne, an agnostic L.A. podcast host. The show follows their passionate relationship as they fall for each other.
In a recent interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Brody discussed the similarities between his character, Noah, and Seth Cohen, the character he portrayed on The O.C. While both characters share a Jewish background, Brody pointed out that Noah is more committed to his path as a rabbi from a young age, unlike Seth, who had a variety of interests. Despite the differences, Brody acknowledged that viewers may feel nostalgic for Seth Cohen when watching Noah on screen.
Nobody Wants This is loosely based on creator Erin Foster’s life as she converted to Judaism for her husband, Simon Tikhman. The chemistry between Bell and Brody on the show has been praised as “hot” by Foster. Interestingly, Bell and Brody, along with their spouses Leighton Meester and Dax Shepard, are all friends in real life, which added a level of comfort to their on-screen romance.
When asked about filming the kissing scenes with a friend, Bell and Brody both agreed that there was a level of comfort due to their existing friendship. Bell mentioned that having worked together before and knowing each other’s spouses helped create a safe and comfortable environment on set. Brody added that once they got past the initial hesitation, they were able to focus on their performances and create a genuine connection on screen.
