Winner of the last Eurovision, Sweden will organize the next edition of the international singing competition. The host city is now known.

On May 13, Sweden was crowned winner of Eurovision thanks to Loreen and her title “Euphoria”. As a result, the country obtained the right to organize the next edition of the competition. The Swedish channel SVT and the European Broadcasting Union revealed on Friday July 7 that Eurovision 2024 would be held in Malmö, a city located in the south of the Nordic country. Which comes as no surprise, since this is the third time the city has hosted the event. The final will take place on May 11, 2024, just after the semi-finals on May 7 and 9.

By winning Eurovision last year, Loreen became the second artist in history to win the singing competition twice, and the first woman to do so. Sweden therefore came first in the Eurovision rankings, ahead of Finland (2nd and 526 points) and Israel (3rd and 362 points). Conversely, France, represented by La Zarra, finished in 16th place, with 104 points. Below, relive the highlights of the evening before the 2024 edition.

The identity of the Eurovision winner was revealed on the evening of May 13 to 14, 2023. Loreen, representing Sweden, won. It is its title, “Tattoo”, which made the difference with the national jurors but also with the public. She obtained a total of 583 points and offers her seventh victory to Sweden. In 2023, France 2 decided not to renew the competition “Eurovision France: it’s you who decide” on an exceptional basis. It is this competition that has designated for some time the song presented at Eurovision. The channel spoke of a “coup de coeur” meeting with the Quebec artist La Zarra and chose to send her directly to the international singing competition. She performed “Obviously” on the Liverpool stage and caused a stir with the audience. You can listen to it below.

Since its creation in 1956, France has won the Eurovision Song Contest five times: in 1958, 1960, 1962, 1969 and 1977. Our country is therefore just behind Ireland, which holds the record with seven victories. In 1958, it was the singer André Claveau who won France’s first victory with the title “Dors, mon amour”. Two years later, in 1960, the artist Jacqueline Boyer was unanimous with the song “Tom Pillibi”.

In 1962, Isabelle Aubret won Eurovision with the song “Un premier amour”. Then, in 1969, Frida Boccara won the Eurovision Song Contest with the title “Un jour, un enfant”. Finally, in 1977, the singer Marie Myriam was the last to win by performing “The Bird and the Child”, a title that has become cult over time for the public.
