PHILIPSEN. He will be the spearhead of the Alpecin team for this Tour de France with Mathieu van der Poel, focus on the Belgian sprinter.
This Tour de France 2022 and particularly during the first stages, will be an opportunity for sprinters to shine. Among them, the Belgian Jasper Philipsen is aiming for several victories on this Grande Boucle, he is the teammate of Mathieu van der Poel. Second last year on the Champs Elysées stage, the rider from Alpecin finally wants to win his bouquet against the best sprinters in the world.
“It looks like there will be around seven chances to win a bunch sprint at most. It’s the best case scenario if the teams really commit to this exercise. Last year there were six. I think the second week will be really difficult. The opportunities will be in the first week and also towards the end when the gaps will perhaps offer more freedom to some” he explained in an interview for the daily sport.
Biography Jasper Philipsen. Jasper Philipsen was born on March 2, 1998 in Mol, a city located in the province of Antwerp in Belgium. Hope of Belgian cycling, he is compared to Belgian legend Tom Boonen as soon as he joins the peloton, with whom he shares the birthplace but also the taste for the classics. A comparison that does not seem to bother the native of Mol: “I am fast and I like the cobblestones. It is therefore logical to be compared to Boonen.”
If Jasper Philipsen is still a hope of cycling, he quickly got on a bike, from an early age. He is quite discreet about his private life, especially concerning his parents or his brothers and sisters. He distinguished himself in junior races where, thanks to his rolling qualities, he was spotted by the BMC Development team in 2017. Jasper Philipsen turned professional in 2018.
