DC’s movie future was shrouded in mystery, until studio head James Gunn announced future movie plans on January 31, 2023.

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has continued to grow over the past few years, DC Studios’ universe seemed to be falling apart. Whether it’s because of film flops (Wonder Woman 1984) or the many scandals (the accusations against Ezra Miller or Josh Wedon), the superhero franchise has lost its luster over the years. Since the beginning of the year, James Gunn (director of Guardians of the Galaxy at Marvel) has taken over the management of DC Studios and is developing a new cinematic strategy. The contours were unveiled on January 31, 2023.

What will the future of DC Studios look like? James Gunn has teased several chapters, the first of which will be titled “Gods and Monsters”. In total, it contains ten projects, which announces the return of known superheroes, and others much less. For the moment, we do not know the direction that the following chapters will take. In the meantime, other ongoing DC projects will see the light of day, such as Shazam: Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, which are still scheduled for release in 2023. A third Aquaman movie is also reportedly in the works.
