The 48th Cesar ceremony took place on Friday February 24, 2023 at the Olympia. The event was broadcast live and unencrypted on Canal. La Nuit du 12 was the big winner of the evening with no less than six prizes won, including the César for Best Film and Best Director. Virginie Efira was crowned Best Actress for Revoir Paris while Benoît Magimel won the César for Best Actor for Pacifiction – Torment on the Islands, becoming the first actor to be awarded two consecutive years in this category. The presentation of the Cesar ceremony was exceptionally done in a collegial manner. Leïla Bekhti, Jérôme Commandeur, Jamel Debbouze, Emmanuelle Devos, Léa Drucker, Eye Haïdara, Alex Lutz, Raphaël Personnaz and Ahmed Sylla were present to host the evening. The artistic direction of the ceremony was provided by Eric Lartigau (director of La Famille Bélier). Tahar Rahim has been chosen to preside over the 48th Cesar ceremony. American director David Fincher received an honorary Cesar from the hands of Virginie Efira and Brad Pitt.

Since 1976, the César du cinema ceremony has rewarded the best of the seventh French art. Prizes are awarded each year in Paris by the Académie des César, also called the Academy of Cinema Arts and Techniques. It was the sculptor César who made the trophy, which has the shape of compressions of metal objects. Each year, between February and March, the ceremony is often broadcast live and unencrypted on the Canal channel. Radio enthusiasts can also follow the ceremony on Europe 1 from 2022.
