With his raspy voice, and love songs have Jørn Hoel (62) has been one of Norway’s most famous musicians. The breakthrough started with the monster hit “Have a dream” 32 years ago.

– We had been “stuck” at home in a completely new situation. I have well learned the lesson that most in our country, that it is wise to keep distance and to be careful. I struggle very with this myself, but practicing me constantly. I think this will affect us for a long time.

– Strong experience
In December last year rose Hotel to Bosnia under the auspices of SOS children’s villages and TV2, in connection with the Tv2 “Juleaksjon”. Where he visited Srebrenica, the site of one of Europe’s worst genocide since the second world war.
This was a shocking experience, even so many years afterwards.

In the year it is 25 years since the massacre where 8,000 bosnian boys and men were killed by bosnian serb and serb soldiers in Srebrenica. The town was under united nations protection, and was declared “safe zone”. The visit made a strong impression on the Hotel.
– I can’t figure out that Europe has the conscience to leave this beautiful people and country “go for the alkalis and cold water”. For it is what they do. They are yet in a situation where the country cannot develop itself in line with the rest of Europe. And it is our leaders in Europe who are to blame for this. It is very unfair and sad, ” he says.

Hoel first love was his first guitar. He can’t get along without espresso in the morning, and like best to wake up in own bed, with the fridge and the family in the immediate vicinity.
– What was the most mischievous you did as a kid?
– On the old people’s home next to our house in Swindon, they had a large aquarium in the Hall. In it swam many fine fish, but I was “hooked” on the two gullfiskene. One day when gamlingene ate dinner I saw my incision. No one noticed me. I was four-five years old, and swollen managed to catch a goldfish. I put it in my pocket, ran home, baked it in the stekepanna and ate it afterwards, ” he says.
Hoel cites Edith Piafs “Non, je ne regrette rien”, “No, I regret nothing” (journ.am.), when Dagbladet asks what he regrets in life. Bad summer memories he rather not.
Bad weather maybe? I am so positive and live in the moment so much and strongly, that I have never allowed negative summer memories to get some place in me, ” he says.
– What is your best sommerminne?
– There are so insanely many, but the honeymoon with my wife Carol, to a vineyard in Provence was unique.
