The biggest help in the renovation of housing, MaPrimeRénov’, will see its budget doubled the next year, announced on Tuesday the government, which wants to put this issue at the heart of the grand recovery plan expected in a few weeks.

“We’re going to start by massively increasing aid to the owners for the renovation”, said the minister of Housing Emmanuelle Wargon on the chain CNews. “The envelope of the premium, MaPrimeRénov, you must multiply by two the next year and two more the year after that”, she detailed.

A consumption threshold to be specified
MaPrimeRénov’ is, currently, the main support dedicated to the owners to renovate their homes in order to reduce its energy consumption. Last week, Emmanuelle Wargon had announced that all households would again become eligible for this assistance, while the wealthy had been excluded.
She had also promised more budget next year to 800 million euros this year. But she had mentioned that an envelope larger than a billion. Finally, “we are going to increase to two billion, so we’re going to really increase a lot,” she insisted Tuesday.

The minister has also put forward other measures already announced the day before by the government in the wake of the recommendations of the ‘Convention’ for the Climate. A future decree will specify the threshold in energy consumption beyond which a housing is no longer considered as “decent”.
Concretely, by 2023, a tenant can force the landlord to undertake work if the home consumes more than 500 kwh per year per m2. This concerns approximately 120 000 dwellings.
