“Finding Me” will be released next Tuesday. It follows Davis’ journey from a “crumbling flat in Central Falls, Rhode Island” into acclaim for stage and screen work. Her numerous prizes include a Tony Award for August Wilson’s Broadway production of “Fences” in 2010 and an Academy Award, for the film adaptation of “Fences”, which was released in 2016.

Within hours of Winfrey’s announcement “Finding Me”, was among the top five Amazon.com bestsellers.

Winfrey stated that she knew the book was one she wanted to share with the rest of the world after reading the first paragraph. Viola has overcome so much to become the role model of the world today as an actress, mother, wife, and mother.

Davis released a statement Thursday expressing her gratitude to Winfrey and expressing her appreciation for the support.

Davis stated, “The courage to share my story has been equal to mine fear.” Your acknowledgment was like a hug. I am grateful for your support and the platform that allowed me to speak my truth to the rest of the world.

You can stream Winfrey’s interview on Netflix starting Friday. Winfrey will also speak with Davis May 16 at an interactive book club gathering hosted by OprahDaily.com. This online hub is for Winfrey’s book club.

Thursday’s announcement, like Winfrey’s previous pick, Martha Beck’s “The Way of Integrity. Finding the Path to Your True Self,” makes no mention of the Apple partnership Winfrey launched with Ta-NehisiCoates’ novel “The Water Dancer” in September 2019. A Winfrey spokesperson stated that Winfrey was currently working with Apple to produce a documentary about Sidney Poitier whose memoir, “The Measure of a Man”, which was a man, “The Measure of a Woman” was a club pick in 2007.
