DAFT PUNK. French producer and half of the helmeted duo Daft Punk, Thomas Bangalter, has released the first song from “Mythologies”, his first solo project expected in the spring of 2023.

[Updated January 31, 2023 at 5:54 p.m.] Childbirth: this is the name of the very first track of Mythologies, the solo project (or almost) by Thomas Bangalter. On January 25, the ex-half of the Daft Punk duo announced his return with a project called Mythologies, expected on January 7. Childbirth (to listen to below) is therefore the prelude, performed by the National Orchestra of Bordeaux Aquitaine, conducted by Romain Dumas. A classic piece, far from Daft Punk electro.

Mythologies, Thomas Bangalter’s project, will have 23 titles, reports Tsugi magazine, originally created for choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, for the ballet of the same name, performed by the Orchester national Bordeaux Aquitaine, conducted by Romain Dumas. “Mythologies is the first opus composed by Thomas Bangalter for an orchestra, through which the co-founder of Daft Punk reinvents his relationship to composition”, can we read in a tweet from Warner Classics, announcing the project, initiated at summer 2021.

“Angelin Preljocaj, who had already worked with Daft Punk on electro music, offered Thomas Bangalter this time to compose ballet music for him. This one wanted to change register, he really wanted to try to pass to something else, to rub shoulders with symphonic orchestration”, explained at the time Olivier Lombardie, general administrator of the Opéra national de Bordeaux, interviewed by AFP.

In 2021, the separation of the legendary helmeted duo Daft Punk had the effect of a bomb and took everyone by surprise. And Thomas Bangalter’s project seems to have little to do with the music he offered with his friend Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. And for good reason, it is, in the words of Olivier Olivier Lombardie, general administrator of the Opéra national de Bordeaux, interviewed by AFP in the summer of 2021 of “a work for orchestra, without electronics.” “This one wanted to change register, he really wanted to try to move on, to rub shoulders with symphonic orchestration”, he adds.

On the announcement of the spring release of a first album by Thomas Bangalter since the separation of Daft Punk, the magazine Tsugi unveiled the tracklist of Mythologies, expected in stores on April 7, 2023: the disc has 23 tracks, for a duration of 1h30.
