S.W.A.T. Season 8 is set to premiere soon, defying the odds after CBS attempted to cancel the show twice due to fan backlash. Lead star Shemar Moore recently shared a photo on social media, giving fans a sneak peek at the new team.
Season 7 was believed to be the last, so some characters were written off to wrap up storylines. While Moore will be returning as Hondo, Rochelle Aytes, who portrays Nichelle Carmichael, will be leaving the show as a series regular. However, fans may still see her occasionally on screen. Kenny Johnson’s character, Dominique Luca, was forced to retire after being shot, and Alex Russell’s character, Jim Street, was transferred to the Long Beach S.W.A.T. team.
In preparation for the Season 8 premiere on October 18th, Moore shared photos on Instagram to promote the show. The new squad was featured in one photo, with familiar face Deacon, played by Jay Harrington. Despite the excitement for the show’s return, many fans were disappointed that some favorite characters would not be returning.
With a predominantly new cast, there are concerns about how this may impact Season 8’s ratings and whether it could be the final season of S.W.A.T. Only time will tell the outcome.
