Metz station, located in the department of Moselle, in the Grand Est region, won the title of most beautiful station in France, for the 3rd consecutive year. Metz station reached the final after eliminating Valenciennes station in the semi-finals.

Inaugurated in 1908 by the Imperial General Directorate of Alsace-Lorraine Railways, this Rhenish neo-Romanesque style station (it is one of the main stations in Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine, a new province of the German Empire) is listed in the register of historical monuments of France for its facade with remarkable decorations, its period stained glass windows, its bas-reliefs, its interlaced arcades, its interior buffet and its traveler hall…

Saint-Brieuc station, located in the Côtes-d’Armor department in the Brittany region, was the big runner-up against Metz after eliminating Limoges station in the semi-finals. Despite the support of many Bretons, extremely mobilized, such as the journalist from L’Équipe Estelle Denis who had called to vote for the Briochine station on Twitter, she unfortunately did not win the trophy.

Designed by the architect Jules Touzard and inaugurated in 1863 by the Compagnie des Chemins de Fer de l’Ouest, the Saint-Brieuc station mixes art-deco, art nouveau and regionalist architectural styles. Its dome is monumental, 26 meters high, and its 110-meter long facade displays the sculpted arms of the city and those of Brittany. Saint-Brieuc station appears in scenes from two films: La Bataille du rail, by René Clément (1946) and Non ma fille, tu n’vas pas danser, by Christophe Honoré (2008). The LGV Bretagne-Pays de la Loire has been serving Saint-Brieuc since 2017, connecting Paris in just 2h10.

The votes to elect the winner of the final of the contest for the most beautiful station in France lasted 48 hours and are now closed. You had until Wednesday, January 20, 2021, 11 a.m., to vote on the Gares et Connexions Facebook page.
