JOSEPHINE PRIZE. For its first ceremony, the Joséphine Prize was awarded to November Ultra and its album “Bedroom Walls”, rewarded among the 10 albums of the year chosen by a jury of artists.
A prize to reward artistic quality, by a jury entirely composed of artists. This is the bet of the Joséphine Prize, whose award ceremony took place this Friday, September 23, live from studio 104 of the Maison de la Radio et de la Musique. And it is the singer November Ultra who won this very first Joséphine Prize, with her album Bedroom Walls, released in April 2022. Broadcast on FIP radio, this very first edition was to distinguish a winner from a list of 40 albums.
During this gala evening, chaired by singer Keren Ann, the competing artists were able to play one or more titles from the album for which they were in competition. This year, the jury was composed solely of artists, namely: Kerenn Ann, president of the jury, Chloé, Doriand, Guilty, Imany, L’Impératrice, Myd, Numah, Oxmo Puccino, Bénédicte Schmitt and Sage.
“The philosophy of the Prize is that of open-mindedness: plurality of styles and representativeness of artists from all walks of life. The objective is to bring out new talents, celebrate established artists, bring the public and artists closer together, encourage diversity and curiosity. Come on, let’s dare Josephine!”, promised the organizers of the Josephine Prize in a press release.
For its very first edition, the Joséphine Prize has relied on a 2022 list of emerging talents and established artists, intended to be representative of the diversity of musical genres. Here is the list of nominees for the 2022 Joséphine Prize:
