[Updated Feb 09, 2023 4:54 PM] He was one of the masters of pop: Burt Bacharach is no more. The singer, performer and composer died Wednesday, February 8, 2023 in Los Angeles. He was 94 years old. A news confirmed by Tina Brausman, the artist’s agent at the Washington Post, without giving details on the circumstances of the death. According to several American media, including The Guardian, however, he died of “natural causes”.

Born on May 12, 1928, Burt Bacharach had seen his notoriety explode from the 1960s, thanks in particular to songs like Don’t Make Me Over, Walk On By, I Say a Little Prayer, Anyone Who Had a Heart and the Oscar winner Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head. Burt Bacharach also composed the song The look of love, soundtrack to the 1967 Casino Royale

So many titles associated with what music fundamentalists call easy listening, i.e…. elevator music, which Burt Bacharach knew how to make popular and recognized, some considering him rather as one of the greatest geniuses of pop. It was also he who launched, in 1962, the singer Dionne Warwick.

If he had started out as an arranger or pianist, it was his meeting with the lyricist Hal David in 1957 that marked the decisive turning point in his career. Two of their songs have risen to the top of the charts in the United Kingdom, where Burt Bacharach remains very popular: The Story of My Life by Marty Robbins and Magic Moments by Perry Como. During his career and among his 500 titles, he will have offered to pop some of his greatest classics.
