Artem Chigvintsev has been cleared of being the ‘primary aggressor’ in a domestic incident that occurred on August 29. His lawyer, Ilona Antonyan, defended him shortly after the former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant spoke out about his arrest for domestic violence.
Antonyan stated, “My understanding of the investigated facts surrounding the 8/29/24 incident have led me to conclude from the beginning that Artem was not the primary aggressor.” She emphasized that even with the burden of proof being the preponderance of evidence, which is the standard in family court, she firmly believes in Chigvintsev’s innocence.
The incident in question involved Chigvintsev “protecting” his son, Matteo, whom he shares with his estranged wife, Nikki Garcia. The couple’s relationship has been strained, leading to Garcia filing for divorce on September 11, less than two weeks after the domestic violence arrest.
Despite the challenges they are facing, Chigvintsev’s lawyer expressed confidence that he will navigate through this difficult time with strength and dignity. She also mentioned his commitment to establishing a positive co-parenting relationship with his ex-wife once custody arrangements are settled.
Now that the domestic violence charges against Chigvintsev have been dropped, the focus can shift to negotiating a shared custody schedule for Matteo. The lawyer highlighted Chigvintsev’s dedication as a parent, noting that he has been actively involved in his son’s life since the incident.
In a statement released to E! News, Chigvintsev acknowledged the challenges he has faced and expressed gratitude for the resolution of the domestic violence charges. He emphasized that his main priority has always been his son and vowed to continue providing him with the love and support he needs.
While the specifics of the incident involving Garcia have not been confirmed, a 911 call revealed that there was an argument between the couple in the presence of their son. Chigvintsev expressed relief that the truth has come to light and thanked those who stood by him during this difficult time.
Chigvintsev and Garcia first met in 2019 while appearing on “Dancing with the Stars” and tied the knot in 2022. Despite their current challenges, Chigvintsev remains focused on co-parenting and ensuring a stable environment for Matteo as they move forward.
