the Munich-based researchers have cracked the mystery of why, in the Alpine waters of southern Germany, Austria and Switzerland in mass-Bach died trout. The scientists discovered a previously unknown Virus, such as the Technical University of Munich (TUM) announced on Wednesday.

The Munich-based researchers had spent years looking for the cause. “It’s been ten years of detective work,” says the zoologist and head of the interdisciplinary research teams, Ralph Kühn. “In the beginning it was not clear whether it is a bacterium, a Virus, a parasite or an environmental toxin. It was a search for the needle in the haystack.”
The researchers inserted two experimental stations with the aquarium on the river Iller in the Allgäu region. There, they discovered the Virus and decoded its genome. Now they are going to find out about where the pathogen came from. The scientists suspect that global trade could have contributed to the spread.
In Norway, Canada, and South America had been discovered in salmon almost the same time, similar viruses. Salmon are transported as a food fish in the world, perhaps the Virus was transported.
