iOS 17. Apple revealed all the new features coming with iOS 17. Find out what features are coming, when this update will be released and if your iPhone is compatible with iOS 17.
iOS 17 was officially presented by Apple during its Keynote on Monday June 5. The firm spent several minutes detailing all the new features to come for your iPhone, the release date of the update and the different devices compatible with it.
If the previous iOS update focused above all on customizing wallpapers, iOS 17 intends to improve your essential applications such as “Contact”, “Telephone” and “Messages” which are all equipped with new features. Find out what iOS 17 will bring to your iPhone in this article.
iOS 17 is, as we indicated earlier, designed around essential daily applications. Your communication apps like “Phone” or “Messages” will have new features designed around your contacts to create new memories and ways to interact with them. The “Health” application is also improving to take your mental health into account and help you when needed.
Very inspired by the new wallpaper features available for a few months, iOS will improve the way your contacts appear during calls. You will now have a large photo displayed on your phone (or a Memoji if your contact has one) to quickly identify who is calling you.
iOS introduces a new feature for your answering machine called “Live Voicemail”. Your iPhone can automatically transcribe in text format the messages that a correspondent is leaving for you on your answering machine. So you can quickly identify on the message in question is it worth picking up your phone now or if it can wait.
Live Voicemail is based on Neural Engine technology. The latter is particularly capable of identifying unwanted calls so that they are not transcribed by Live Voicemail, but simply rejected.
Finally FaceTime, Apple’s video chat solution, will now allow you to leave video messages on your contacts’ answering machine if they are not available. They will then be able to view the video you sent and respond to you afterwards.
iOS 17 will allow you to exchange contacts in a much smoother and faster way. By approaching two iPhones compatible with the AirDrop functionality, you can easily transfer information from one of your contacts to one of your acquaintances. The data will of course be encrypted so that only the two interlocutors have the information transferred. By approaching two compatible iPhones, it will also be possible to listen to music, watch a movie and play a game while being side by side.
Older iPhones had a feature that many users miss. By simply turning your device to horizontal format, the iPhone would switch apps as is already the case on many Android smartphones. Apple announces that this function is back with iOS 17, but in an improved version.
In particular, it will be possible to display a calendar, the time, the weather, your wallpaper. or your music in horizontal format. Owners of a stand capable of holding the iPhone in this position will be able to use their device as a small daily alarm clock.
iOS 17 was officially presented on Monday, June 5 during the Keynote Apple conference at WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference). The first private beta versions should therefore be available within a few days on the various iPhones compatible with iOS 17.
iOS 17 should be available by the end of 2023 for all compatible iPhones in stable version. The latest version of iOS was notably offered to the general public last September, a few days before the release of the latest iPhone 14.
The “Health” application updates to take your mental health into account. You can also rely on the “Journal” application to write daily notes about your experiences and the mood of your day. Your iPhone can then analyze your different moods and advise you to consult a specialist if necessary.
The new version of iOS 17 is notably the one planned as the base on the new iPhone 15 coming at the end of 2023. But what about older versions of the iPhone? If Apple sticks to its usual updates, here are the different iPhones compatible with iOS 17:
If your iPhone does not automatically offer you the update to iOS 17, it is certainly because the latter is not yet available to the general public. We’ll be sure to update this article with the first beta of iOS 17 as soon as it’s officially released. The first public beta of iOS 17 should notably be available during the month of July, while the final version will certainly be offered in September.
