The Golden Globes rewarded the best of American cinema and television this Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Relive the highlights and discover the complete winners.

[Updated January 11, 2023 2:00 PM] The Golden Globes kicked off the awards season this Tuesday, January 10, 2023. The event honored the best in American film and television. This evening is often followed closely by observers, since its prize list can prefigure the awards given at the Oscars on March 12. Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans won Best Drama and Best Direction, while Inisherin’s The Banshees won Best Comedy and Best Screenplay.

On the acting side, performances by Austin Butler in Elvis and Cate Blanchett in Tàr were hailed for drama, while Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once) were crowned for comedies. The Golden Globes also reward the best of American television. As such, House of the Dragon won Best Drama Series, while Abbott Elementary walked away with Best Comedy Series. The White Lotus won in the “Best Miniseries” category. On the interpretation side, it was the acting of Kevin Costner (Yellowstone), Zendaya (Euphoria), Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary) and Evan Peters (Dahmer) who was rewarded. We detail the winners and the highlights of the evening below.

The Golden Globes crowned Steven Spielberg and his latest film, The Fabelmans. The filmmaker won the Best Director award, while his new feature film, which is inspired by his own childhood marked by his discovery of cinema and the divorce of his parents, won the prestigious award for Best Dramatic Film. “No one really knows who we are until we’re brave enough to tell everyone,” the filmmaker said as he received his award on Tuesday. These awards point to a bright future for the 75-year-old director’s film at the Oscars, although it will most likely have to compete with The Banshees of Inisherin, which won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy Film. Also remember that Steven Spielberg had already received the Golden Globe for Best Musical Film last year for West Side Story. He has thus been crowned two years in a row, which is no small feat.

The Golden Globes offer several interpretation prizes to reward actors and actresses in dramatic films, comedy films, supporting roles or even those in series. On the drama side, Austin Butler’s performance in Elvis won awards, as did Cate Blanchett’s in Tàr (theatrical release January 25, 2023). Comedy Films awarded Colin Farrell for his role in The Banshees of Inisherin and Michelle Yeoh for Everything, Everywhere All at Once. For supporting film roles, Ke Huy Quan from Everything, Everywhere All at Once and Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever won.

On the series side, the Golden Globes rewarded Zendaya (Euphoria) and Kevin Costner (Yellowstone) in the drama series category. If we look at the comedy series, it is Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary) and Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) who were crowned Best Actor and Best Actress, when the mini-series rewarded Evan Peters (Dahmer) and Amanda Seyfried (The Dropout). Finally, if we look at the supporting roles, it is Tyler James Williams (Abbott Elementary) and Julia Garner (Ozark) who left with the statuette. The Golden Globes for Best Actor and Best Actress in a Miniseries were respectively won by Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird) and Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus).

During the 2023 Golden Globes, Eddie Murphy received the Cecil B. DeMille, an award that rewards his entire career. And the troublemaker of American cinema did not fail to refer to the slap given by Will Smith to Chris Rock during the last Oscars ceremony. He thus evoked his “very sure plan to achieve success, prosperity, longevity”: “I have followed this plan all my career and it is very simple. There are three things to do: pay your taxes, mind your own business and don’t talk about Will Smith’s wife.”
