The latest French action comedy from Prime Video is a great success around the world, especially in the United States.

France is currently shining on Prime Video. First with the broadcast of the Roland-Garros tennis tournament, but also thanks to a French film which is a hit on the Amazon streaming platform. Whether in the United States, Morocco, Italy or Belgium, Franck Gastambide’s latest action comedy is making a splash in France via streaming.

Medellín, a heist comedy starring Mike Tyson in particular, has climbed into the top 10 on the platform in many countries around the world and is a real hit in nearly 54 of them. This Thursday, June 8, the feature film was still in third place in the ranking of the most watched films in the United States, while being the first film in the top of the most viewed programs on Prime Video in France.

According to information from Le Parisien, Medellín is thus the biggest international success of a French production on Prime Video. A commercial success for the American giant’s platform, which gave Franck Gastambide more means to achieve his ambitions, even if it meant skipping cinemas. While he has only been on screen for a week, this “Fast And Furious who would meet Very Bad Trip”, as described by Prime Video’s French creative director, still has a bright future ahead of him.

Released on June 1, 2023, Medellín follows the story of three friends who set off to rescue the brother of one of them who is being held hostage by a Colombian cartel. But everything goes wrong when the hero kidnaps the son of the gang leader, in exchange for his brother’s life. Franck Gastambide, director, embodies the main role, alongside Ramzy Bedia, Ragnar le Breton, Mike Tyzon or even Anouar Toubali. All you need is an account on Amazon’s streaming platform, for 6.99 euros per month, to watch the film.
