PEUGEOT 508. Five years after its launch, the second opus of the top-of-the-range sedan from the lion brand has gone through the restyling box. Discover all the news.

[Updated June 14 at 11:48 a.m.] Very far from experiencing the success of the brand’s SUVs, in particular the 3008 and the 5008, the second-generation Peugeot 508 will try to relaunch in 2023. Despite the growing disenchantment of French motorists for sedans – the 508 saw its sales drop by more than 55% in 2022 (only 3,700 copies sold) compared to the previous year – the French manufacturer is not giving up.

To give impetus to its top-of-the-range sedan manufactured in the Alsatian factory in Mulhouse, Peugeot offered it an in-depth restyling, five years after its launch. If prices are on the rise (see below), the move upmarket of the new model, presented in April and on the market since June, is obvious with finishes now reduced to Allure, GT and PSE (Peugeot Sport Engineering). Enough to give the 508 career a boost? Until you find out, you can discover it in detail and in pictures below!

New front end with an original lighting signature, arrival of the new Peugeot logo on the front, modernized interior with a revised i-cockpit, there are many visual novelties…

There are fewer new features under the hood with the overall maintenance of current engines. It’s a little surprise since we expected to find the 136 horsepower hybrid gasoline engine seen for example on the Peugeot 3008. This restyled Peugeot 508 ultimately offers four engine choices: the 130hp 1.5 BlueHDI diesel, two versions of plug-in hybrid engines, one with a power of 180hp – a novelty – the other with 225hp, and finally at the top of the range we find the sporty model of the 508 PSE with its 360 combined horsepower.

With the disappearance of the 1.2 Puretech 130 three-cylinder petrol engine, the diesel engine is now the entry price for the restyled Peugeot 508. The 1.5 BlueHDI 130 four-cylinder Allure range costs 45,900 euros, which is an increase of 2,480 euros over the entry price of the 2018 version (the 1.2 Puretech 130 petrol model). To become the owner of one of the two “plug-in hybrid” versions of the sedan, you have to pay a little more than 50,000 euros. The 180hp version is available from 50,200 euros, almost 2,000 euros less than the more powerful model (225hp) offered at 52,100 euros without paid options. Finally, to afford the sports version, the 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered, with its 4-wheel drive and 360hp under the hood, you have to pay at least 70,650 euros.

While waiting for the restyled version in June 2023, the current 508 remains on the market, in a sedan or SW break version as at present. The 508 SW, the break version of the 508 sedan, had been tested by the Automobile section of Linternaute.com in 2020. In our test carried out on the roads of Portugal, we review for you all the specificities of this version, starting with the trunk, advertised as more spacious than that of the sedan. The Peugeot 508 SW also has a revised and corrected passenger compartment: Peugeot has listened to the criticisms of the sedan’s too cramped rear seats in particular. Check out our test drive of the Peugeot 508 SW to see what that cabin looks like and its impeccably finished cockpit! We were also able to test the road behavior of this 508 SW.

We were also able to take the wheel of the Peugeot 508 sedan in its top-of-the-range GT 225 horsepower version, decked out in a captivating red! This 508 particularly seduced us with its dynamism, its comfort and its smooth and precise steering. You can find all the photos and impressions by clicking above.
