After its defeat against Romania, Ireland challenges Tonga, for the 2nd day of the World Cup, this Saturday evening, with the desire to retain the lead in Group B.

Among the favorites for the final coronation in the World Cup, will the Sexton gang continue their frantic pace from Romania (82-8)? In Nantes, world ranking leaders Ireland will likely have greater adversity facing them, along with the Tonga Islands. The members of the Pacific are playing their first meeting of this World Cup.

Obviously, Ireland, on paper, must win this game. But Tonga was strengthened by several players from other nations. New rules regarding eligibility have notably allowed Vaea Fifita (ex-All Blacks) and Malakai Fekitoa (ex-All Blacks) to fill the ranks of the Sea Eagles.

Facing the press, Jonathan Sexton called on his partners to be wary. “It’s a very good team with very good players. The selection of players who have returned to play for them has given them a real boost. We expect a difficult match against a top team with very good coaches.”

Tongan coach Toutai Kefu returned to the contribution of his experienced players: “Their contribution is already enormous, both on and off the field. It is off the field that they bring the most, in the state of spirit, professionalism, the attitude to adopt. It does us a lot of good and the young players were able to imbibe it. They raised the level of demands for all the players.”
