Swedish snus is everywhere at the minute and it only seems to be growing in popularity even more. Originating from Sweden, the tobacco product was made popular by the Swedes and is now finding its way off the shores of the country and seems to be set for worldwide domination. Well-known celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher have been spotted using the product but it is amongst football stars where the biggest use takes place. They seem to love the tobacco, with many players around the world having been pictured using it over and over again. Those little pots of flavoured tobacco certainly seem to have taken the footballing world by storm.

Footballers and Snus

It was Swedish soccer stars who really started the trend when it comes to snus usage. On any given day there were pictures of players such as Victor Nilsson Lindelöf using his favourite snus product, Göteborgs Rapé, a flavour that can be purchased at Snus Direct. The Swedish players using the product claimed that it gave them clarity when it came to playing the game. The tobacco hit, they claimed, help them to focus all the more and made them more alert during matches. These claims have left many wondering if snus should actually be banned amongst players because of the unfair advantages that it provides. For the meantime, however, snus definitely seems to have cemented its place amongst the greatest footballers. It has definitely found its way into English football, with stars such as Victor Lindelof from Manchester United and Jamie Vardy from Leicester openly displaying their love for the product.

What Exactly is Snus?

Snus is seen as an alternative to smoking. It is known to provide a nicotine hit even greater than what can be enjoyed through a cigarette but without the health complications that smoking is known to be guilty of exacerbating. Snus is sold in little pots and can also come pre-portioned. Consumers simply need to place the tobacco underneath the top lip, inside the mouth to enjoy the nicotine hit. The product is even flavoured so that consumers can enjoy a pleasant experience rather than be stuck with the taste of tobacco which is known to not be nice. With flavours such as berry, eucalyptus or liquorice, there is a lot to choose from. Snus can be left underneath the lip until consumers are done, there is no need to spit it out, unlike American chewing tobacco. Since spitting can look unsightly, snus is definitely more geared towards a more polite market.

Is it legal?

Snus is not illegal to use in the UK. It is also perfectly fine for football players to use during matches. There are questions as to whether players should be able to use it, given that many feel it gives them a direct advantage over those who do not but for now, players have free reign to use it as they see fit. Whether that will change in the future remains to be seen but we’re sure that snus will only keep growing in popularity unless something drastic happens within the footballing world.
