Equipment and medical teams, humanitarian aid, sending military aircraft… The initiatives multiply to support the Lebanese people after the explosions deadly occurred on Tuesday in Beirut. These violent outbreaks from the port of the lebanese capital have been 113 dead, scores of people missing and more than 4,000 wounded, according to the latest balance sheet reported on Wednesday by the minister of Health, Hamad Hassan.

In France, the Secours populaire has allocated an initial fund of 100 000 euros and is launching a “call for donations and solidarity”. “The lebanese government is broke. The government does not have the means to help the population, so it relies a lot on international aid, of course, to the state, but also of humanitarian organizations, with programs dedicated to the rehabilitation of the houses,” said on franceinfo Ismaïl Hassouneh, national secretary of Secours populaire français.

The reconstruction will be “very difficult”, said Ishmael Hassouneh, especially because the country is experiencing “a very serious crisis with the Covid-19, and with a devaluation which is approximately 80 % of the local currency is lebanese”. It is therefore of urgency “to find a place for thousands of injured, because the hospitals in Beirut are saturated” after these explosions, ” he recalls.

The NGO Impact Lebanon has launched a prize to try to raise more than five million euros. In less than 24 hours, the bar of three million euros given has almost been reached. Three planes of humanitarian aid sent by France to Beirut
