The paperback version contains a brand new chapter, titled”The Next Chapter,” that the former NFL player, 29, wrote in July 2020. The following month, he disclosed that Randolph, 25, signed off the new pages, which detail his battle with coronavirus and their split, which they revealed via Instagram in May 2020.

“It has been a crazy couple of months to say the very least, Cass and I have been doing a lot of self-reflecting. Sometimes people are just meant to be friends — and that’s okay. We have grown immensely and been through so much together — so this isn’t the end of our narrative, it is the start of a whole new chapter for us,” the year 23 Bachelor composed via Instagram at the time. She echoed the announcement, noting that”neither” of these were prepared to share their split news but believed that they had to.

“Colton and I have broken up, but have decided to stay part of each other’s lives. With all that we’ve gone through, we have a special bond that will always be there,” the California native wrote. “I adore Colton very much and have an immense amount of admiration for him. Always.”

However, the procedure for submitting that statement was a lot more emotional it appeared, he explained in the new chapter.

His COVID-19 Fight Set Stress on Their Relationship
“The situation has been unlucky, impossible to predict, incredibly trying, and surreal. And while I won’t state it led to our breakup, it did topic our connection to extraordinary tension and strain, as it did to so many people’s lives,” Underwood wrote at the new chapter. He added that following a week of staying from the guest bedroom of Randolph’s family home with a fever, he finally managed to come back downstairs. “I regret that I was occasionally more dumb than smart as it came to constantly wearing a mask and going to extreme lengths to make sure I kept my germs far away from Cass’s family,” he wrote. “Michelle [Randolph] stated she could not be about meand the virus — and reserved it back to Los Angeles to be with her boyfriend. I discovered similar stress in Cass’s voice. “‘It is difficult to explain what’s doing to everybody,’ she said.”

Cassie Initiated the Breakup Months Before They Posted
Shortly after he recovered, that he was blindsided by Cassie stating that she was fighting with their relationship. They tried to spend some time together and get back to normal but it did not work. In April, he moved the rest of his stuff out of her house.

“Her birthday was a couple of days later. I felt unhappy about missing even though we had been broken up, and I drove down there at the last minute, had dinner, celebrated with her loved ones and friends, and then returned to LA.. I wanted to be with my loved ones and place some space between me and Cass therefore I did not feel the temptation to be near her,” the athlete wrote, adding that they spoke frequently while he had been there”making some progress, talking through problems [and] agreeing to disagree,” but she still wanted to post the split statement via social media.

They Cried Over FaceTime While Posting Their Split Statement
Finally , he gave in. “I suppose I was the kid on the high dive who needed a push. Otherwise he’d never jump. You do not have to be a therapist to understand why I had been so resistant. I didn’t want to split up. I didn’t want to take that Cass desired to break me up. I didn’t want it to be over. I didn’t need any of this to be real,” he shared. Still, on May 29, they posted in the same time whilst on FaceTime with each other and cried.

After time , the fact superstar named Cassie for dinner and they fulfilled in L.A.”We hit it off like none of the previous five months had happened. Afterward, she arrived back into my own place, at which we had a couple drinks, hung out, and we had been Colton and Cass again the rest of that evening. Afterward, when we awakened the morning after, I could tell everything was different,” he remembered. “I had the urge to say I love you before she walked out the door, and I sensed she did, too. No door closed that softly has made a louder sound.”

The split struck Underwood hard, he admitted in the chapter. Breaking up is similar to seeing your heart in someone else’s hands and realizing the anesthesia has worn off. Geez, it hurt,” he wrote. “The pain was excruciating. But not nearly as bad as it would have been if I’d never had that relationship with Cass.”

He’ll Always Love Her

Despite the split, he considers that they were in love and”now that time has now passed, I feel both people have stayed in love with each other and always will be.”

He added,”I understand Cass famously stated on tv that she loved me but wasn’t in love with me, and in retrospect that’s so Cassie: true, conflicted, confused, not wanting to hurt, trying to prevent being hurt, and ultimately following her heart. She followed her heart to me. I have no doubt she had been in love with me just as I was in love with her.”

Back in September 2020, Cassie filed a restraining order from Underwood, also claiming from the files he had put a tracking device on her vehicle. The next month, the restraining order was dropped.
