Do not overlook a 4-year-old! Mixed-ish celebrity Tika Sumpter revealed how she’s her little one to listen during a new interview with Us Weekly.

“Their minds are so vibrant, so I’d say speak to them like they’re people because they’re,” Sumpter, 40, told Us. “Her whole life, we really baby talked to her, and we’ve only seen it has helped her development a bit more.”

Sumpter, who shares kid Ella using fiancé Nick James, stated that she’s already seeing the benefits of speaking for her as an adult rather than a child.

“Now we’re seeing the fruits of that, which is her being able to set her words to the way she feels,” she clarified. “If she is mad with us, instead of saying,’What is wrong with you?’ [I say],’I am upset with you. You made me very upset.’ I love that because that gives them an emotional IQ so that I’m not guessing anymore.”

Sumpter also got real about parenting during the quarantine.

“I have an wonderful support system, which is my fiancé, Nick. And he had a little more patience than I did,” she admitted. “Sometimes I simply had to tell my child,’I don’t need to play with anymore, I am tired.’ And, that’s OK too. I think we are made to feel guilty in some manner about that.”

If she’s time to get herself, Sumpter said:”I love to meditate. I read a publication. Right now, I had to do a 14-day quarantine in Canada because I am working on Sonic 2, so that was really a workout. I reassessed my consumption and the way I need my body to function. It was just a second for myself. So I’m really excited that I have that chance.”
