The limited series, Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on Disney+ in May 2022. It will feature Ewan MacGregor who plays a younger version the character played in the original film trilogy. The original idea was to make the show a feature-length movie, but Disney decided that it should be a TV series.
The Moulin Rouge! Star played Obi Wan in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. He was delighted to be back in his character’s robes.
In February 2022, the actor from Scotland said that he loved playing him again. It’s interesting after having made the first three films, and then living through their reception in the rest of the world. Then, now, I am able to meet the generation for which those films were made, both the children in their teens and early 20s. They loved the films. They’re their Star Wars movies, you know?
Although plot details are kept secret, producers confirmed that the show will take place 10 years after the events of Star Wars Episode III — Revenge of the Sith. After a duel with Obi Wan, Anakin Skywalker ( Hayden Christensen) transformed into Darth Vader at the end of the film. Padme, his wife ( Natalie Portman), had twins, Luke and Leia. They were later separated for safety reasons.
Obi-Wan will watch over Luke as he begins the new series on Tatooine when the show’s debuts. Luke was sent there to live with Uncle Owen ( Joel Edgerton ) and Aunt Beru( Bonnie Pieesse ).
McGregor confirmed that Christensen will be returning as Anakin. However, he declined to give any further details. In the same interview, McGregor stated that he would not reveal any details about the storyline. However, he said that he believes it will satisfy Star Wars fan. “I believe we crafted, or they crafted, a very fine storyline. It’s going to be loved by people.
Who is in it?
McGregor, Edgerton, Edgerton, and Piesse will all reprise their roles in the prequel trilogy. Rupert Friend will play the role of the Grand Inquisitor. This is a high-ranking official within the Galactic Empire. Moses Ingram, Sung Kang also will appear as inquisitors. Game of Thrones alumni Indira Viarma will play an Imperial officer. O’Shea Jackson Jr. Maya Erskine, Kumail Nanjiani and Benny Safdie were cast in unspecified roles. A young Luke Skywalker may also be cast, although no announcement has been made.
What’s the Place for It in the “Star Wars” Timeline?
According to producers, Obi – Wan Kenobi occurs after the events of Revenge of the Sith. It takes place before the original trilogy and its sequel trilogy. This puts it ahead of The Mandalorian as well as The Book of Boba Fett which take place after Star Wars Episode VI — Return of the Jedi. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was made shortly before Star Wars Episode IV — A New Hope. This means that it won’t intersect or cross with Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Is It Possible to Connect to “The Mandalorian”?
It’s unlikely, The Mandalorian takes places well after the events in the original trilogy. Obi – Wan Kenobi was set before the film in the series. It’s possible that Boba Fett could make an appearance in the new series. He was preteen in the prequel trilogy.
When does it premiere?
Disney+ will premiere the first installment of the limited series in six episodes on May 27, 2022.
Vader is Back
Star Wars fan are thrilled about Darth Vader’s return — as is Christensen who played the role in the prequel films. The actor said that it was “amazing” and did not go into too many details, as he reflected on the experience of returning to the franchise in Entertainment Weekly, March 2022. It’s an honor to be able to wear that suit.”
Revenge of the Sith was first released almost 20 years ago. Christensen stated that it felt “natural to return” to the role. He explained that he was “excited to play Darth Vader” at this stage in the timeline, as it felt like a natural continuation to your journey with the character. “That was very meaningful to me.”
New Music
John Williams, a legendary composer, wrote the Obi-Wan theme. Natalie Holt composed the rest of series’ music. The Loki composer is first woman to ever score live-action Star Wars projects. Holt stated that she believes it is an emotional score and that it has Star Wars roots a bit more than The Mandalorian. Holt spoke to Vanity Fair in April 2022. We had 250 flutes and horns. I used the hunting horn to compose the score. We are also mixing the orchestra with more modern synth sounds. It’s what we are used to, plus a few new elements.
Holt’s brand new music is not shown in teasers, as it’s still a mystery. However, she suggested that she was inspired by all parts of the globe. She explained that there are Latin influences on one of the planets. There are some Thai, Hong Kong and Eastern sounds. You can take flavors from all over the globe and transform them into something else. Star Wars is all about scoring a planet. It must have scale.
