[This story contains spoilers about the fifth episode on HBO Max’s And Just Like That.]

The latest episode of And Just Like That shows that the Sex and the City continuation isn’t giving up on Samantha Jones.

Carrie (Kristin) learns that she requires surgery to fix a hip problem. Carrie is offered post-operative care by Charlotte (Kristin). After being discharged from the hospital, Carrie and Charlotte return to Carrie’s where they record the latest episode of their podcast with Jackie Nee (Bobby Lee), and Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez).

Carrie recalls an SATC episode two moment in which Samantha (Kim Cattrall), helped Carrie with something she was having trouble understanding. Samantha had to “up there for like one minute” to help her.

You cannot put boundaries and girlfriends together. She says that her girlfriends are always there for her no matter what. They are always there for me. You know what? Samantha Jones, my friend, pulled my diaphragm with her naked hand that time because it was stuck.

Charlotte asks Carrie about her position on boundaries after the podcast ends. She notes that Samantha was identified using her full name in the recording, without asking her former friend for permission. Carrie initially ignores it.

“I believe I am allowed to tell the story. She jokingly calls my vagina “my story”. “Besides, she doesn’t have this podcast on her radar. She is currently in London.

Although the first episode showed that Samantha had left the friend group because she moved to the U.K. to get a job, the episode went on until episode 5, which gives Samantha a voice, even if it’s only via a phone screen.

Charlotte encouraged Carrie to reconsider her position and said, “I think maybe you should tell her that, that’s it.” This prompts Carrie, who texts Samantha about the incident to check in with Samantha.

“Hi. “Hi.

Samantha does not let the fact that there is a conflict between them, however, stop her from responding at least initially. She texts back, “One of my best hours,” before Carrie responds quickly with “Hope it’s okay.”

“Of course. Samantha says, “I love that your vagina gets air time.”

Carrie seems to take this as an invitation for Carrie to be vulnerable and tell her friend, “I love you.” However, Samantha doesn’t seem so ready to reply to this particular message. It appears that Samantha is beginning to type before she finally stops responding.

Rachna Fruchbom, Just Like That’s writer, told The Hollywood Reporter that she was excited to be featured on the show’s New York red-carpet premiere. It’s highly unlikely that all the people you knew in your 20s and 30s will be the same person when you reach your 50s. We tried to make it organic, as if it would naturally evolve. We didn’t lose it. We didn’t just give her up. Samantha’s there. She’s there.”

Samantha Irby, a writer for “Tragically Hip”, explained to THR that Samantha’s appearance on the show’s Dec. 8, premiere was a chance to examine how friendships change as we age.

She explained that Samantha was a great example of how friendships can change no matter what age. You think of your 20s like this: “I don’t speak to her anymore but now I talk with her.” This gave us the opportunity to show how friendships can change in both good and bad ways.

Irby, who was still referring to Carrie’s hip surgeries exploits, also revealed on the New York Carpet that she tried to insert a joke about a potty into the show. It is clear that this was the moment, given the nature of Carrie’s hospital visit and Charlotte’s assistance in using the toilet.

“We tried to get diarrhea in the show,” Irby stated.” Keli [Goff], with no pun intended. She spit all over this and wouldn’t allow us to do it.”
