Michaela Niemetz loves it quickly: With the Luge, the 25-year-old Gerets riederin starts on the natural ice rinks in national and international competitions.
Geretsried – When you grow up on the top of the hill in the village of Ergertshausen, then there is in Winter a good way to get as quickly as possible to Egling, Deining or the Riedhof – just with the sledge through the snow down the slope showers. Michaela Niemetz laughs. “Quite so,” says the 25-year-old natural track rodlerin. Rather, they had been taken from Childhood by their parents for winter sports. “And as long as I can sit, I was as always on the sled.” As a father, Thomas, took over the Vice-Chairman of the Luge club in Kreuth, she came for the first time, racing in touch.
at the age of eleven graduated from Michaela Niemetz their first race in the Bavarian Championships, then it went on and on. In 2011 and 2013, she was German Junior champion in 2016, she won the title at the adults. The natural track rodlerin of some regret to me, that your sport has not yet been incorporated into the program of the Olympic winter games. “For 2022, the vote was close to 50:50, but then it smashed.” However, it has applied to the Association for the Olympics 2026 – “maybe it works this time”. And how would it be easy to change with the sledge through radio and television, well-known colleagues on the ice rink? Michaela Niemetz laughs. “I have tried of course. It was faszierend, but not so outstanding that it had me animated to an exchange.“ The differences were already clear. So there is the Luge on natural track with no banked curves, no high speeds to be achieved. In the normal case, it is up to about 80 kilometres per hour, on ice, you come on up to the 140 stuff. The around 1,500-Euro sled to be about 14 kilograms. “With us, it’s also much more pronounced steering movements, and we a brake on the respective curves,” explains the 25-Year-old. Not least, nature was on track eating only 800 to 900 meters long. “Particularly impressive is the train in Moscow, for example, where I was already three times at the Start.
