In light of the tragic events at the annual Astroworld Festival, Travis Scott has put another of his lucrative partnerships on ice. On Tuesday, December 28, fashion house Dior announced that it would suspend its collaboration with Travis Scott.
WWD was informed by Dior that it had decided to delay indefinitely the launch products from its Cactus Jack collaboration. This decision was made out of compassion for all those affected by the terrible events at Astroworld. The publication was also informed by his team that the decision not to launch the product was mutual.
Astrowold saw ten people die after crowds ran up to the stage. Later, the Houston County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that the cause of death for the victims was compression asphyxia. The youngest victim was nine years old. Hundreds were also injured during the incident.
Scott is currently working closely with officials to standardize safety procedures at festivals across the United States after the tragic incident. The rapper spoke repeatedly about safety in his first interview after Astroworld, which he did on December 9 with Charlamagne Tha God. He seemed to shift blame. “As an artist, it’s all about the creative. This was my festival. I had the opportunity to bring in artists and creatively produce it. Scott stated that we trust professionals to ensure that people are safe and well taken care of.” “I can’t control what I do on the stage. Let the professionals manage what happens in the crowd.”
Scott’s projects have been put on hold by Dior, as well as ties with the brand. Nike had planned to launch a collection featuring the rapper, aged 30, on Air Max 1 shoes in “Baroque Brown”, and “Saturn Gold,” colorways. However, the launch was postponed on Nov. 16, following the Astroworld. The company released a statement via the SNKRS website and Nike saying that they had postponed the launch of the Air Max 1x Cactus Jack “out of respect for all those who were affected by the tragic events at Astroworld Festival.”
