A recyclable plastic and degradable

other industry giants like Coca-Cola and Danone are hoping to also ensure the future of their products in the bottle while addressing the environmental damage caused by pollution to plastic. Because currently, in the world, 300 million tons of plastic are produced from fossil fuels each year. Products that are for the most part not recycled and contribute to the scourge of microplastics in the oceans of the world and can take hundreds of years to decompose completely.

“The plastic plant does not use fossil fuels and can be recycled (…) It would deteriorate a lot more quickly than plastic normal”, says Tom Van Aken, CEO of the company Avantium. In effect, the trials showed that the plastic plant will decay in a year using a composter, and in a few more years if it was left in outdoor conditions normal. “But ideally, it should be recycled”, further stated the director.

The bio-refinery plans to break down the plant sugars sustainable chemical structures which could then form a new plastic made from plants. A project who could blossom in the supermarket shelves by 2023.
