A study shows that in this period of a pandemic, the singles tend to turn to their old relationships, to have sexual activity.

In one study, the Fifg has sought to determine how the pandemic has impacted the sexuality of singles. The result of the survey conducted in June shows that the trend is more on a return of those already known, that on meeting new people. On the set of bachelors, 29% had at least one sexual intercourse in the month that followed the containment. For 25%, it was with a person with whom it had already happened, whether it’s an ex or a casual partner. Conversely, only 5% to 6% of singles have had a sexual relationship with someone they met after the 11th of may.

“It is a kind of safe sex. Singles have the impression to know the part of the risk. They are in a logic of sexual safety and satisfaction,” explains the Parisian François Kraus, director of the centre “Gender, sexualities and sexual health” to the Fifg.

New stigma to sexual that is bound to a virus infection

According to this official, two explanations. First of all, the opportunity to meet with new partners is reduced with the containment and the closure of many venues such as night clubs. Thus, 57% of singles say that it is “now more difficult to meet than before”.

The other explanation would be a denial widely shared to have a sexual relationship with a person who has been infected or exposed to the Covid-19. According to the study, 62% of singles will spend their way if their potential partner has ever been sick. This rate rises, moreover, 64% of the people who work in sectors exposed to the virus, such as health, sale, or transportation. Women are also more wary than men. “This is in itself symptomatic of a new type of stigma, sexual risk last,” said Francois Kraus with the Parisian.
