The space telescope “Hubble” has returned to technical problems in the normal operation, as Nasa announced at the weekend. “Hubble is back”, tweeted the US space Agency. The telescope have already been completed on Saturday, the first scientific observations. “Hubble” observed, according to Nasa, currently a galaxy with the catchy name DSF2237B-1-IR.

The space telescope was since the beginning of October in “Safe Mode”. Only basic functions were running, to avoid further damage. The reason for the throttled mode, the failure of a gyroscopic stabilizer, the gyroscope is called.

These instruments, Hubble will help “” in the orientation in space. The telescope has a six-piece on-Board. Since commissioning in 1990, however, there were always problems with the instruments. In 2009, astronauts replaced all six of the gyro stabilizers. After the ?llegal Bahis failure, only two functioned, however, Hubble needs three to be able to work optimally.

Nasa had first tried to take a backup gyroscope in operation, it was said in the message, but without success. Then, a surgery team in the past few weeks, have the telescope to and fro, and various modes of operation. This was solved, finally, a blockage between the various components of the gyroscope. As the researchers could be sure that the Problem will not repeat, they would have put Hubble back in operation.

replacement in 2021

“Hubble” is a joint project of the American and European space agencies Nasa and Esa, and since April 1990. From the beginning, however, there were complications.

To begin with, about the image quality expectations. In the case of a Space Shuttle Mission in 1993 the telescope had to be repaired. Later, the gyroscopes were always problems. In the meantime, Hubble delivered “” nevertheless, impressive pictures, as this photo shows.

according to Nasa and Esa’s Hubble to “work” for at least up to the year 2021. Then the “James Webb”space telescope, the canadian space Agency, CSA is involved in could replace, “Hubble”.
