The United stages of Vienna show in September, the production of “the Bodyguard – The Musical,” based on the movie Blockbuster from the 90s. Kevin Costner (63) and Whitney Houston (1963-2012) was then spine-tingling moments on the canvas. On the stage this is the task of, among other things, the German actor, presenter and series star Jo Weil (41), who plays the role of the Bodyguards “Frank Farmer”. In an Interview with spot on news he explains how he finds Vienna and how much space the “Forbidden love” in his life.
“the Bodyguard – the Musical” you will be entered virtually in the footsteps of Kevin Costner. What is it like to slip into such a famous role?
Jo Because I feel it is a great honor! In my youth, I’ve seen “the Bodyguard” with my friends in the cinema and we all wanted to be as cool as Kevin Costner. Now I can this is a role – almost 25 years later – to self-interpret. This makes me very happy! Of course, it is always difficult, and if you dare to cult figures such as Rachel Marron and Frank Farmer. Pretty much everyone knows the Film, and thus has also an own picture of how our presentation should look like. Still, I try, of course, the figure also my own stamp on it. If I succeed in that the audience are familiar with the beloved again, and yet my own color like I can be, I think, satisfied.
As the reactions are in Vienna so far?
Jo Because: Great! We have been playing for almost a month, as well as every evening in front of a sold-out house, and there was still no idea, which was celebrated with enthusiastic Standing Ovations from the audience. It is always an incredible feeling when I look at the end of the Show in over a thousand happy faces! A real incentive for every upcoming Show! And the advance has to pay record – we can be here in Vienna, so really happy!
The movie was in the 90s, an audience success. What do you associate with the strip?
Jo Because: I have it, as already mentioned, seen as a teen even in the cinema and was thrilled by it! This exciting blend of Thriller, love story and, above all, unusual Happy/Not-Happy-End, has always fascinated me! However, I associate with the Musical Version so much more! A few years ago I saw the Show for the first Time on the West End of London and was immediately blown away! It amazes me how well the Creative Team have managed to bring the cinema feeling to the stage! If every evening at Vienna’s Ronacher, the curtain rises, I am not only an actor, but also a huge Fan of this Show!
Which Song by Whitney Houston makes you the greatest feelings?
Jo Because: Because there are some! With “One Moment in Time” do I connect, however, especially much, since I’ve heard from him just before my first Audition for “the Bodyguard” again. Just then, in front of my Recall, according to the final commitment of the role and the Rehearsal begins. As I stood in the Premiere on the stage and this Song was, I got on the whole body goose bumps and was damn proud of myself! That was my “One Moment in Time” and it is since then, by the way, also each and every evening.
they sing in the Musical. What is the biggest challenge in the role of Frank Farmer?
Deneme Bonusu Jo Because Frank is a very stiff figure. He shows few emotions, a lot going on with him internally. To find the small moments in which the audience still in his soul can look back and understand why he is the way he is, was not so easy. But working with our Director, has really a lot of fun and has led, I think, to a really beautiful result.
you are now aiming for a new career as a Musical Star?
Jo Because I never plan on in the future, because that is simply not possible. If you’d asked me a year ago whether I would play in the foreseeable future, once the main male role in a Musical, I would have kept the probably very unlikely. In my Job situations, you can’t plan to just sometimes. In this respect, I am, among many others, our artistic Director Christian Struppeck, our Director, Frank Thompson, and our Caster Dominik bum very grateful that you have put in this project, your confidence in me. Currently, I’m enjoying it, I’m on stage every night, and still somehow manage to turn on the side and moderate. I just am, for example, parallel to the ideas for an episode role of the “Rosenheim-Cops” in front of the camera. This mix is perfect and so it must remain. And the work at the Musical makes me a huge lot of fun! So I hope that it will not be my last production in this direction. I have to take on any case, just for safety’s sake, back singing lessons started.
How do you like living in Vienna and what you miss to Cologne?
Jo Because: Vienna is beautiful and I can’t imagine that is currently that I should be here at some point. This city has been chosen for a reason just back to the most liveable city in the world. Here is simply right everything – the people, the history, the big city feeling – something for every taste. I’ve lost my heart in Vienna, and who knows, maybe I’ll stay a little longer here. After over 20 years in Cologne, I miss there, of course, a lot – especially my friends! I can’t see the every day, to me, to be honest!
made Famous by her role of Oliver in “Forbidden love”. It happens to you today, that you are approached on the street?
Jo Because: Even often! I’ve played this role so many years and she was very popular with the crowd. In this respect, I am pleased that she has remained in the minds of the people. Particularly beautiful it is, of course, if Fans of the “VL”-time to follow me on other projects like to see and support. It happens really often to me after the performance, the spectators for an autograph or photo requests tell me that they find me since “Forbidden love” is great, and since then, my career track – that makes me very proud!
Have you? still in contact with colleagues from the series
Jo Because: To some Yes! Some of them are among my closest circle of friends and I am very grateful that has brought me the series of these special people in my life.
“Everything counts” and “Red Rosen” were you to see. Would you like to play a part again in a series?
Jo Weil: of course! I love the Turn a series! You have the time, its role is always to continue to expand and develop – that makes already very much fun! But I also love the variety – so it pleases me well, if I can constantly be in new projects. I am in my Job, just open to what comes. When soon again a series anklingelt and the role I like, I will certainly not say no.
At the RTL-Show “Dance Dance Dance” have taken part also. What Show or series on German television would irritate you?
Jo Weil: Oh, there’s still so much! I would very much like to join you in “Let’s Dance”, all the adventure Shows irritate me! I would love to moderate on TV, and in any case, a “Pilcher” and a “dream ship” turn! Here in Austria I would women me particularly about roles in the “Suburbs” and “Soko Kitz and the Danube” offers! And then, when finally a quote from “The Walking Dead” or “Vikings” should come, I would honestly not even sad! (laughs)
