[Updated September 16, 2023 at 6:52 p.m.] The European Heritage Days take place on Saturday September 16 and Sunday September 17. Their theme is “Living Heritage” and “Sports Heritage”, one year before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. These days are an opportunity to discover exceptional places such as the Château de Versailles and the Palace of the Élysée, but also places usually closed to the public. Thus, in Paris, it is possible to visit the Banque de France, behind the scenes of the metro or even take an unusual visit to the Saint-Lazare station.

Many sites require a reservation and are therefore taken by storm. In several cities, Paris, Lyon, Lille, Marseille and Bordeaux, some 70,000 events are planned. So to help you sort through all these proposals, discover a selection of the must-see places to visit in Île-de-France. Thanks to the map available, find an activity near you!

Discover the 2023 Heritage Days program thanks to the interactive map which allows you, city by city, region by region, to find an event near you. Some will take the opportunity to visit a cultural hotspot, exceptionally free of charge, and to enjoy unique activities for an original visit. Others will head towards one of these wonders of our heritage which can only be visited once a year in September.

Museums, castles, palaces, private mansions, institutes, town halls, embassies, theaters and even private homes open their doors. These are places often closed the rest of the year which reveal the behind their decor on this occasion. Combining public and private initiatives, the 40th European Heritage Days on the theme of “Living Heritage” and “Sports Heritage” offer the opportunity to publicize the action of public authorities and present the work of those who act in service of knowledge, preservation and promotion of heritage.
