The military coalition led by saudi Arabia in Yemen announced on Monday a cease-fire between the yemeni government and the separatists in the South, who decreed the autonomy of this region, after several military victories.
The two sides will hold further discussions in saudi Arabia to discuss a truce, said the spokesman of the coalition Turki al-Maliki. The maintenance of this ceasefire would be favorable to the coalition, which takes place from 2015 alongside the yemeni government in the war against the rebel Houthis supported by Iran, a rival regional of saudi Arabia. The latter control much of northern Yemen, including the capital Sana’a.

The announcement comes after the decision on Saturday by the separatists of the transitional Council of the south (STC), and control of the strategic island yemen Socotra, off the coast of Aden. The STC and the government are in principle allies in the military coalition that fight against the rebel Houthis.

“The coalition salutes the response of the legitimate government of Yemen and the transitional Council of the south to demand a cease-fire overall, de-escalation and a meeting that will be held in the kingdom,” said Turki al-Maliki, in a statement relayed by the official media, without providing details.
According to him, this process will advance the application of a power-sharing agreement in the South signed in Riyadh in November 2019 between the two parties, but which quickly collapsed.
