Warzone 2.0 starts the first with the arrival of its season 2. An update that brings many changes requested by fans, and about which we tell you everything.

[Updated Feb 14, 2023 11:26 AM] Warzone 2.0 was heralded as an undeniable success when it was released, attracting no less than 25 million players within days. Only, three months later, the game has suffered a significant loss of players and is struggling to convince due to outdated mechanics, or simply profoundly unfun. The crucial moment for Activision and Infinity Ward will therefore be the arrival of Season 2 of the game, bringing with it many changes requested by players. We take stock just below.

Warzone 2 Season 2 will officially begin on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. (French time). Season 2, originally scheduled for February 1st, has been pushed back for various reasons in Activision’s words: “Warzone Season 2 will launch on February 15th. Our studio teams are currently focusing on in-game quality of life improvements and various other positive changes for our players. Season 2 includes new content, with the return of Resurgence and a new scaled down map (Ashika) for Warzone 2. Ranked play is also back as well as new multiplayer maps, new game modes, new weapons and more.

Ashika Island will therefore be the new map of Warzone 2.0, integrating the game at the same time as Season 2 of Warzone 2. This new map, which can be noted for its traditional Japanese style, will be the key point of the Resurgence mode which is making its back to Battle Royale. As a reminder, the Resurgence mode is a slightly more casual mode than the classic Battle Royale since it incorporates resurrection mechanics during the game. This revelation was also an opportunity for the studio teams to present the extent of the technical changes that are planned for the gameplay of the game.

As you will have understood, Activision has fully understood the latent dissatisfaction of players and content creators related to Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2, and intends to offer a rich range of new content with the arrival of the next season. In-game, this translates into various additions and changes, including the parcel and Gulag systems heavily criticized by players.

The Gulag will find its original system of 1 player against 1 player, in a map adapted to this kind of fights then later in the season in a brand new Gulag recreated for the occasion. Another aspect of the game strongly criticized by players will be changed in this new season, namely the functioning of backpacks. The medium and large backpacks that used to store self-revives and killstreaks in astronomical quantities will simply be removed from the game. What to find normal fights where tactical strikes no longer replace handguns, and where to die means to die.

New weapons, game modes and operators will join the Battle Royale content, including the Resurgence mode which will return to the game alongside a new reduced-size map, Ashika. A Hardcore mode is also expected to appear during Season 2 in Modern Warfare 2, providing a more engaging experience for multiplayer players (less hitpoints, less HUD information) and this may addition is making its transition to Warzone 2 as a new game mode.
