Météo-France has decided to place the departments of Charente-Maritime and Gironde on orange rain-flood vigilance this Monday afternoon. The meteorological episode should end Tuesday morning.
Vigilance is required on the Atlantic coast. In its latest weather forecast this Monday afternoon, Météo-France decided to place two departments on orange rain-flood vigilance. These are Gironde and Charente-Maritime. The alert, which runs from 7 p.m. until Tuesday May 21 in the morning, was issued due to an episode of heavy rain during the night from Monday to Tuesday. Nearly 50 to 80 millimeters of rain are expected, said the meteorological institute, which calls for extreme vigilance. In the southwest as well as in the center of France, stormy rains, sometimes sustained, could also occur, Météo-France further notes.
While the weather does indeed seem capricious this year, almost the entire country is currently classified under yellow alert for various reasons, whether for the risk of storms, floods, avalanches or rain-flooding.
This Monday, the weather was still choppy over a large part of the country, with many departments drenched in stormy rain. Moselle, which was the last department still placed on orange flood alert, finally returned to yellow early in the morning this Monday, May 20. A level of vigilance which therefore goes down a notch, thus bringing a moment of respite to the many victims of recent days. After some clearings, the weather will deteriorate again with a new episode of rain expected during the night from Monday to Tuesday. On site, while the material damage is significant, the Bas-Rhin prefecture has already announced that it will support the requests for recognition of a natural disaster made by the affected municipalities, reports BFMTV.
