“Valérie Pécresse will assume her presidential campaign debt whatever happens, she has made a personal commitment”, assured Le Figaro recently a close friend of the president of the Ile-de-France region.

According to Christian Jacob, the boss of the Republicans, Valérie Pécresse has “almost” repaid all of her loan. “I think it’s closed, it’s almost closed, almost closed”, indicated the former minister of Jacques Chirac on RTL radio this Thursday in response to a question from a journalist, adding that the sum five million euros would be “practically” reached by May 31.

After losing in the first round of the presidential election on April 10, with a score of 4.78%, the Republican candidate had been forced to launch an appeal for donations to finance her campaign account. The elected official had taken out a personal bank loan of 5.1 million euros, but her score below 5% did not allow her to obtain the hoped-for public reimbursements. This call for donations must end on May 31.
