Richard Carapaz (ECU/Ineos), pink jersey: “It was a very hard stage but I’m happy at the end, it’s another good day. The ranking is becoming more precise every day, I’m happy to keep the pink jersey. Bahrain rolled, Landa attacked but the situation was under control. I had good legs, I had confidence. Tomorrow (Thursday) will be important. No day is easy. We will have to recover and stay focused.”

Jai Hindley (AUS / Bora), 2nd overall: “I felt tired on the last climb which was very tough, but I think I was not the only one. The tempo was high, it’s high level with Carapaz and Landa. We tried to take time off other runners. We are at the end of the Giro, there are few stages left.

Joao Almeida (POR / UAE), 4th overall: “Yesterday (Tuesday) was really hard and I didn’t feel at my normal level in the last climbs. There are three difficult days to do and then a time trial, so the podium is always possible even if it will not be easy.

Guillaume Martin (FRA / Cofidis), 9th in the stage: “Today I was not imperial, only a little better than yesterday (Tuesday). I ran intelligently, I was able to anticipate as necessary. I couldn’t do much better but it’s already better than yesterday. I’m improving downhill and gaining confidence as the days go by. It was a solid step if not transcendent. There are still two opportunities to aim for a stage victory. I’ll be on the offensive again!”
