Here is the secret ingredient that will make the difference when cleaning your windows. The result: easier, streak-free cleaning.
It’s time for some big spring cleaning! And spring cleaning means window cleaning, that dreaded chore. This is a task that requires time and patience, especially if the windows are numerous or difficult to access. But above all, the results are not always satisfactory, because even after careful cleaning, traces or marks can remain, which can be really frustrating… Unless you know this tip which makes all the difference.
First of all, forget about commercially available window cleaners! They cost a fortune and often contain harsh chemicals that are harmful to you, your family, and the environment. Choose a home solution that is more economical, more ecological, and just as effective. All you need to do is use water, white vinegar and dishwashing liquid. Simple in appearance and not revolutionary, but be careful, too many people make a mistake: putting cold water in their preparation. The result is therefore less satisfactory, and can leave marks.
To avoid this and achieve optimal results, it is important to use hot water. Each ingredient in this recipe is important. White vinegar is a powerful natural cleaner that helps remove stains and streaks from windows. The dishwashing liquid will reinforce the action of the white vinegar. As for hot water, it’s a crucial part of our window cleaning method. It helps dissolve dirt and residue, making cleaning much easier and more effective.
Now that you have all the necessary ingredients, it’s time to take action. Fill a spray bottle 3/4 full with hot water and top up with white vinegar and add a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Mix the ingredients well to obtain a homogeneous solution. Generously spray the surface of the glass with your cleaning solution. Use a clean cloth to scrub the glass in a circular motion. Focus on areas with stubborn stains or dirt. Once the glass surface is thoroughly cleaned, use the window squeegee to remove excess water and cleaning solution.
Always start at the top of the window and slide the squeegee downward using constant pressure. Wipe the squeegee with a clean cloth after each pass to avoid leaving marks. Don’t forget to also clean the edges and frames of the glass with a clean, damp cloth. Once you have finished cleaning the glass, use a clean, dry cloth to wipe away any remaining moisture.
We give you one last but valuable piece of advice that is too often forgotten: clean your windows on cloudy days or in cool weather to prevent the cleaning solution from drying too quickly, which could leave marks.
