The National Frequency Agency (ANFR) banned the sale of the IPhone 12 in France this Tuesday, arguing that the waves emitted by the device are above the authorized threshold. But what should you do with your iPhone if you have one?
While it presented the 15th generation of its famous iPhone this Tuesday, September 12, 2023, during its traditional Keynote, the party was a little spoiled in France for Apple. The National Frequency Agency (ANFR) banned the sale of the IPhone 12 in France this Tuesday, reveals Le Parisien. A ban for which Jean-Noël Barrot, the Minister Delegate in charge of Digital and Telecommunications, explained the reasons in the columns of the Ile-de-France daily.
The minister thus explained that recent “tests”, carried out by the ANFR and “confirmed by an independent laboratory”, showed that the device presented an “emission of electromagnetic waves very slightly above the authorized threshold”, which led the ANFR to announce to the company “its decision to withdraw the marketing of the iPhone 12 in France”.
If all sales of the new iPhone 12 are blocked, the question of models already in circulation since 2020 arises. At this stage, no recall has been ordered and even no instructions have been given by the authorities to iPhone 12 owners. But Jean-Noël Barrot indicated that the ANFP has “put “Apple” on notice to resolve the non-compliance problem”, explaining that the problem could be resolved “by a simple software update”. “The American company has fifteen days to comply,” he said, threatening a possible general recall if that was not the case.
