Israel has claimed responsibility for the strikes on Qouneitra, in retaliation for “attempts” to place pipe bombs along its disputed frontier with Syria.
The tension is rising a notch between Syria and Israel, which does not allow the regime of Bashar al-Assad to become the bridgehead of Tehran. The air defence of the syrian army is in action Monday night against the raids in the south of the country claimed by Israel, reported the official news agency, syrian Sana.
“At 22: 40 today (21h40 paris time), helicopters of the israeli enemy launched burst rockets on some of our positions (…) to Qouneitra,” said Sana, citing a military source, who reported only “property damage”. The syrian Observatory Human rights (OSDH) also reported on the “israeli raids” on the province of Qouneitra, without being able to specify if the strikes have killed syrian soldiers or combatants allies.

The town of Boukamal, in the north-east of the country near the iraqi border, was also targeted by missiles the israelis, said the director of the OSDH, Rami Abdel Rahmane. The day before, aircraft not identified in this city have killed 15 fighters and pro-iranians, a majority of Iraqis, according to the OSDH.

“The targets struck include observation posts and of the systems of collection of information, facilities, anti-aircraft and control systems in bases of the syrian armed forces”, continued the israeli army in this rare admission of air strikes in Syria.

Since the beginning in 2011 the conflict in Syria, Israel has conducted numerous raids against the forces of the regime but also against its allies, Iran and Hezbollah, enemies of the jewish State. The strikes attributed to Israel or claimed by the israeli army aimed regularly in Syria to the positions where are stationed the forces, iranian or Hizbullah fighters, sometimes of the dead.
On 20 July, five fighters pro-Iran, including a member of lebanese Hezbollah, were killed in israeli strikes in the south of Damascus, according to OSDH, who has reported eleven wounded among which seven syrian soldiers. On Sunday night, the israeli army had killed four “terrorists” who posed according to her explosives near a security fence along part of the syrian Golan occupied by Israel.

These unidentified men “were in israeli territory, but beyond the fence” and were attacked by a unit of israeli, under the cover of snipers and air raids, which had indicated the lieutenant colonel Jonathan Conricus.

The israeli army had also deployed in July of new reinforcements along its northern border, at the intersection of Lebanon and Syria, claiming to have “high level of preparedness against a variety of enemy action potential”.
