Israel has claimed responsibility for the strikes on Qouneitra, in retaliation for “attempts” to place pipe bombs along its disputed frontier with Syria.

The tension is rising a notch between Syria and Israel, which does not allow the regime of Bashar al-Assad to become the bridgehead of Tehran. The air defence of the syrian army is in action Monday night against the raids in the south of the country claimed by Israel, reported the official news agency, syrian Sana.

“At 22: 40 today (21h40 paris time), helicopters of the israeli enemy launched burst rockets on some of our positions (…) to Qouneitra,” said Sana, citing a military source, who reported only “property damage”. The syrian Observatory Human rights (OSDH) also reported on the “israeli raids” on the province of Qouneitra, without being able to specify if the strikes have killed syrian soldiers or combatants allies.

The town of Boukamal, in the north-east of the country near the iraqi border, was also targeted by missiles the israelis, said the director of the OSDH, Rami Abdel Rahmane. The day before, aircraft not identified in this city have killed 15 fighters and pro-iranians, a majority of Iraqis, according to the OSDH.
