Fans of fast driving use all their imagination to escape the clutches of the police authorities.

Since excessive speed is one of the main causes of serious accidents, authorities are increasing efforts to put an end to the habit. Speed ??cameras play a crucial role in deterring drivers from applying too much pressure on the accelerator. They are the “Big Brother” of the roads, capturing images of vehicles exceeding the limits.

However, the presence of these devices does not deter some drivers, who are constantly looking for tips to become “invisible”. One of the newer methods used by these hard-pressed conductors involves the use of insulating tape. By using the latter, these clever drivers change their license plate number, thus thinking of fooling cameras and radars and evading sanctions.

Recently a Spanish driver chose this method. He was spotted by Catalan police while traveling on the AP-7 highway, which stretches along Spain’s Mediterranean coast from the village of Els Limits to Vera in Almería. During the check, it was found that the driver, using black electrical tape, had transformed the letter “F” on his license plate into “E”. This got him into trouble because, in Spain, falsifying license plates is punishable by a prison sentence of six to twelve months.

In France, falsifying or modifying a registration plate is a criminal offense. The consequences for violators can be severe. First of all, the guilty person risks a fine of up to 3,750 euros. In addition, depending on the seriousness of the offense and the circumstances, other sanctions may be added. Driving license suspension for up to 3 years is also possible, whether or not the offender is the owner of the vehicle. In some cases, the vehicle may be confiscated.

Finally, beyond legal sanctions, falsifying a plate can have serious consequences in the event of an accident, because insurance may refuse to cover damages if such fraud is discovered. It is therefore strongly discouraged to commit such an offense.
