ARTS TEST. Monday, March 20, 2023, students who have chosen the Arts specialty in the baccalaureate will work on one of the seven subjects offered for teaching in terminale.

[Updated March 14, 2023 at 3:52 p.m.] On Monday, March 20, for 3:30 a.m., final year students will take the test of one of the seven courses in the arts specialty that they will have followed during this school year. As part of a partnership with Studyrama, you have access to certain Arts subjects from the past year but also from the first exams of the 2023 baccalaureate in French high schools abroad.

The 2023 test corresponds to the choice of three specialties made by each high school student in first year, from among the twelve specialty subjects available. Then, the student eliminates one in terminale, to pass only two written specialty tests at the end of the year.

To appeal to high school students, the field of fields studied has been widened by offering the possibility of discovering a specific discipline of the Arts. From cinema-audiovisual to circus arts via theatre, the program is very broad. With seven artistic sub-disciplines to choose from, the high school student can choose according to his cultural sensitivities, knowing that each of them is evaluated with its own tests on the day of the Bac. The panel of tests is therefore very wide, but for you who have chosen one of these seven options, you just have to focus on the progress of yours! From the dates, to the types of questions, through the course and the arrangements of the test, here is everything you need to know about the Arts specialty exam…

What is the date of the 2023 baccalaureate Arts exam?

The Bac 2023 Arts exam takes place on Monday March 20 between 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. During the afternoon, all the baccalaureate candidates who have followed the artistic lessons in first and final year will be evaluated on written tests such as analyzes of texts or writing of scripts and/or original shows. For future baccalaureate holders from Guadeloupe, Guyana, Martinique and Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, the test will take place from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

French high schools abroad have already worked on certain specialty tests this Tuesday, March 14, including arts specialties that can be done in writing. Thanks to Studyrama, here are the exams for the 2023 baccalaureate that French high school students abroad had to think about. Obviously the events of March 20 will not be identical to those of March 14 but constitute a good means of training.

The subjects of the other specialties have not yet been revealed during these anticipated exams for the 2023 baccalaureate.

In order to better visualize the Arts tests that await future graduates, here are the subjects on which they were assessed in 2022 for each artistic specialty.

Only the corrections for the Plastic Arts and Cinema-Audiovisual Arts specialties have fallen, they are written by associate professors in partnership with our partner Studyrama.

For the circus, dance, theatre, music and art history disciplines, we do not have answer keys. You can, however, consult the contents of the above topics.

As you will have understood, the main thing for you is to anticipate the tests that will fall in your discipline of the Arts specialty. The choice is indeed possible in the new baccalaureate subject models. In addition, the adaptations made with the new reform ensure that all students are approached on prioritized program elements. As the Ministry of National Education specifies in an explanatory guide, there is no need to duplicate all the subjects or some of their components, except to take the risk of producing files of documents that are very complex to organize and too long. to be understood within the time allotted to the test. What are these seven disciplines to choose from in the Arts specialization?

The specialty test of the Arts test takes place in two parts, regardless of the discipline. The first is written, and the second oral. All of the indications, regardless of the specialty chosen, are developed by this note from the National Education Department which precisely details the procedures on D-Day. The course of the tests is more or less complex depending on the discipline, the most difficult to grasp. being the Visual Arts, with many choices to make and test stages to respect. But don’t panic, we’ll explain everything to you, point by point.

The writing takes place in two stages. First the student must mobilize his knowledge and skills to build “a reasoned reflection on an aspect of artistic creation, induced by a corpus of three to five works” in order to analyze a corpus of works on certain aspects of artistic creation. The second part of the test offers candidates to choose between a subject A: critical commentary on a document on art, and a subject B: note of intent for an exhibition project. This provision makes it possible to make right to the choices of the candidate between two different ways of reflection, two types of writings, in other fields of questioning of the programs than for the part.

It is based on one or more plastic practices, approaches and productions selected by the candidate as part of the project he has carried out throughout the year.

The candidate will choose between two subjects, each relating to one of the two questions included in the limiting program of the Terminale class. For the year 2022-2023 the limiting program is as follows, indicated the Ministry of National Education:

This oral part of the circus arts specialty test lasts 30 minutes. The student will have to present a number of 4 to 6 minutes (alone or four maximum) your number and the student will then have an interview of about twenty minutes with an examiner.

Here again, a choice will have to be made between two subjects. This test is the subject of an adaptation: it will consist of the proposal of two subjects using two different entries of the limiting terminal program. The first subject will have as its theme a link with the culture of choreography and the second part of the test will be dedicated to an analysis of documents. With this year’s study theme “dance: a questioning of the world” comprising three sub-categories according to the limited program of the ministry:

The evaluation will focus on a choreography and then an interview with the jury. The choreography counts for 12 points and the answers to the jury 8 points.

The writing will have for first part the extract of a work of the program namely:

After this analysis, the student will have to choose between two subjects: either a cinematographic rewriting project and the or a question of reflection using a corpus of documents.

The oral lasts 30 minutes and will be divided into three parts: presentation of the student’s creation project, then question on this creation by the jury and finally, the jurors will ask additional questions on the subject.

The student will have for the written part the choice between two subjects. Either a dissertation or a written composition related to several documents. For the year 2022-2023, the three questions selected to be reviewed for D-Day are the following, indicated the specialized ministry:

The oral test

The oral test also lasts 30 minutes where the high school student will not have any preparation to speak in front of the portfolio jury following the draw. The last 15 minutes will be interactions with the jury.

The writing takes place in two stages with first a question on eight points and then a formulation to be written by the student related to a work of the program namely according to the Student:

This program is based on the stagings of Thomas Ostermeier (2016) and Thomas Jolly (2017).

The test consists of two stages: a theatrical proposal inspired by a work from the program following a draw. The student will have to perform an excerpt from the play then answer the questions of the jury on the logbook filled in during the year.

This written test consists of three exercises. Please note: the first two exercises are based on the repeated broadcast of recorded musical extracts, with a subject that must be the same for all the candidates gathered in the same room. The first is the description of a brief excerpt from a work that is not in the program for the year, the second is the comparative commentary of two excerpts from works. Then will come the third exercise, which consists of a written commentary on one or more documents testifying to contemporary musical life. From the same corpus of documents, the candidate will have the choice of dealing with one of the two questions asked. This third exercise, specifies the Ministry, does not call for particular knowledge but more “the expression of an analysis and personal reflection on the document(s) provided”. Among the revision program planned by the ministry:

For this oral part of the musical test, the candidate orally presents and performs a “collective creation developed during the final year” with a short presentation in addition. Then during the second part of this 30-minute test, the high school student must present a summary document with the works studied or analyzed during the year.

A priori, the results of the Arts specialty test will be available on July 4, at the same time as the results of the other tests (French, philosophy and grand oral). The fact that specialty courses are evaluated a little earlier does not affect the publication of the results.
