Monday March 20 and Tuesday March 21, the Terminales having chosen this specialty pass the test of SES. What does the subject look like in 2023? What topic dropped last year?
[Updated March 13, 2023 at 2:25 p.m.] Are you ready for the SES (Economic and Social Sciences) specialty test? Monday March 20 and Tuesday March 21, it will finally be time to confront the subject of the 2023 edition of the baccalaureate. In reality, since there are two sessions of the exam, for the sake of timing, there will be two subjects to avoid cheating and ensure equality between all candidates.
No surprise this year in the subjects of 2023: all the exercises or the subjects of dissertations take up one or more themes seen and learned in class during the year. Above all, you have to be meticulous about how to articulate your argument and make sure you are clear and complete in your answers. Be careful to manage your time well and especially not to neglect the proofreading time, which should be around 15 minutes. To train for the SES 2023 events, the best and most effective way is to confront the annals and what fell last year. If you know how to answer these questions well, you will have no difficulty this year for your baccalaureate specialty exam.
On the day of the test, in front of their paper, candidates can choose between two subjects, which generally avoids great disappointment and allows all candidates to discard a theme with which they are uncomfortable. This year, the Ministry of National Education has selected these themes, with very specific guidelines. Candidates for the 2023 baccalaureate will inevitably come across one of the following subjects, obviously developed differently and with a unique angle around these themes:
The subjects of last year’s baccalaureate SES exam are available in their entirety in partnership with Studyrama. On Wednesday, May 11, the essay was mainly placed under the sign of the economy with a question on growth: “Is the accumulation of the factors of production the only source of economic growth”. The reasoning exercise, supported by a documentary file, was a little more ambivalent but slightly more focused on the social sciences since it dealt with work and especially with the evolution of employment and the integrating role of work. The questions of knowledge, they cast a wider net, mixing economics and sociology.
For the second round of topics, on Thursday, May 12, candidates were able to choose between the essay topic “How can we explain international trade?” and the two composite tests including the common exercise of reasoning on a documentary file proposing to “show that the approach in terms of social classes to account for French society can be called into question”. With regard to the questions of mobilization of knowledge they related to both economic and social subjects and finally the study of the document was interested in the growth and the increase in productivity.

Last year, high school students had the choice between an economics-based essay – topics focused on economic growth or international trade – and two composite papers comprising a reasoning exercise focused on social sciences. With its partner, Studyrama, Linternaute offers you answers to SES exam papers, written by an associate professor. For all dissertation type exercises, these are suggested answers
A priori, the results of the specialty test in economics and social sciences will be available on July 4, 2023, at the same time as the results of the other tests (French, philosophy and major oral). The fact that specialty courses are assessed earlier does not affect the publication of results.
