Real-Liverpool. After the big victory in the first leg (5-2), Real Madrid receives Liverpool in the knockout stages of the Champions League. Discover all the information about this shock.
A shock that did not keep its promises! After the rout in the first leg in England (5-2 after leading 2-0), Liverpool travel to Madrid to face the Merengue and create the feat in the knockout stages of the Champions League. For this meeting, Carlo Ancelotti will be deprived of David Alaba (muscular injury). In a press conference, the Real Madrid coach confirmed the return of Karim Benzema while warning his players against a possible relaxation after the first leg: “It’s quite clear, quite simple. We must try to play as possible, to set up the game the same way as the first leg. We have to try to win the game. […] We are not going to prepare this game taking into account our advantage. It will be a quite an open game, I think, because Liverpool will try to shift the dynamic, and we are going to play our football, attacking football.”
As for the Reds, the calculation is simple: they must win by three goals to force extra time or more for direct qualification. A task which proves to be complicated for Ibrahima Konaté and his partners but not impossible after the brilliant victory in the league against Manchester United (7-0). For this return match, Jurgen Klopp will have to do without Thiago, Luis Diaz and Joe Gomez. Absences which make qualification difficult while the Liverpool coach wants to believe in the feat: “After Anfield, I said that Madrid were going to qualify… I now think that we have to play. Even if he there is only a 1% chance, I would like to try. We are here to face a very complicated opponent and we will try to win. It will be improbable and at the same time possible. If we are able to surprise each other, negatively on some nights we should also be able to do it positively. We are not here to say ‘careful Madrid, we are coming’, but we are going to try to win the match.???????”
